Beyond the Skin Effect is a computer controlled audio-visual installation.Through Beyond the Skin Effect I temporally expand the charged space that occurs just before touch. Normally this space exists only for an instant: within that split-second external forces and interior emotions converge. It is at this confluence where the surface of the human body meets the environment in which it is placed. The horizontal and vertical movements of the video mimic the body anticipating the pending touch and shock. By visually and aurally mediating this indeterminate space I address the anticipation and apprehension that arise just before one is touched. A singular event becomes a continuous action where nothing is determined.
